Cross stitch fabric calculation

Unsure how much fabric you need for your project? Here are easy steps to calculate how large your backing fabric should be:

1. Refer to the stitch count of your pattern. For example, 156 x 312.

2. Decide on what count of fabric you would like to stitch on. Usually this will 14/16/18 ct for Aida.

3. Divide the stitch count by the fabric count in each direction. For example, for 18 ct you will divide 156 / 18 = 8.7 and 312 / 18 = 17.33. Therefore, the fabric you need is 8.7 x 17.33 inches.

4. Add 1 to 2 inches to the calculated area for side/top (so you can frame).
